Course Overview

The Port Campbell Jetty Crane Safety Awareness Course is designed to provide participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to safely operate the Port Campbell jetty crane, the only crane of its kind in Victoria. Installed in November 2011, this unique crane is an integral part of port operations, and to operate it, you must first complete this specific training program as part of the Parks Victoria application process for crane security fob (card) access.

CRANE OPERATION
This course covers all aspects of crane operation, including general safety procedures, crane slinging, and performing pre-start checks. You will gain the necessary skills to operate the crane safely, understand third-party awareness, and meet crane reporting requirements.

Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the training, which includes both theory and practical assessments, participants will receive a certificate. This certificate is required to apply for the Port Campbell Jetty Crane security fob (card) through Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority / Parks Victoria

Important Information

COURSE PRE-REQUISITES

While there are no specific course prerequisites, it’s important to note that there is an age requirement for this course.

  • Particpants MUST be 18 and above years of age.

PPE REQUIREMENTS

The practical will be completed in a simulated rail corridor and full PPE will be required. The following PPE is required:

  • Enclosed footwear.
  • Life jacket
  • Hat
  • Eye protection / sunglasses

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LL&N)

Before training begins, participants will go through an assessment that helps us determine if any learning support is needed. To successfully complete this course, participants are expected to have the following language, literacy, and numeracy skills:

  • Interpret and comprehend workplace safety signs and symbols.
  • Comprehend workplace policies, procedures, and informational materials.
  • Comprehend basic spoken English.
  • Communicate essential safety-related information.

Parks Victoria Requirements
To apply for crane security fob (card) access, it is a requirement of Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority &  Parks Victoria that all crane operators complete this safety training program. Please contact the Parks Victoria Port Campbell Office at 13 19 63  and or Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority at  1300 736 533 for more information regarding eligibility requirements and the application process for the security fob (card).

Assessment Methods

To be deemed competent, participants are required to successfully complete a combination of the written and practical tasks which form an assessment instrument.

The delivery of this course is face -to-face in a combination of in a classroom and practical activities in a simulated rail environment.
